Tech recap 2021 - Smartphones, Robots, home security and more awesomeness

The tech of 2021 – The recap

This year 2021, just like the previous years has been great. We saw a plenty of new smartphones, laptops, robots and other tech products get unveiled, and this year successfully came to an end and this article is a recap of 2021, which focuses on the things that happened on the course of the year.

TECH PASSION

2021 is the birth of a lot of tech advancements including, Tech passion. I have posted a total of 15 articles and this is the 16th, best of all, this month on 17th is its 6 monthsary, I missed it due to exam reasons, but I am very happy with the support you viewers provided.

YOUTUBE

This year started with the introduction of YouTube shorts, in which you can post 1-minute videos, like Tik-Tok and Instagram reels, most of the tiktokers joined YouTube short and it is now becoming a big part of YouTube., even me in my YouTube channel posted a few successful YouTube shorts that took my channel forward.

But later in the year, they also took out the dislike button to reduce the criticism that small creators face, but let’s just say this has its own upsides and downsides.

SMARTPHONES

14th January 2021 marked the rise of one of the most remarkable smartphones of the entire year, the S21 Ultra. This is the first flagship to launch in 2021, and this phone packed everything a mobile power user might need, and there are no drawbacks to hold itself from calling this the best phone of the year, and I love that phone.

Then got launched the ZTE Axon 20 5G, this is a phone which is a normal midranger that had one particular feature that no one even thought could work... an invisible camera! As this is the first of its kind, the camera quality was low and the selfies looked foggy. And the screen near the camera area was of less quality. But, ZTE launched its successor Axon 30 5G the same year and the photo and videos of that was way better than the last one.

Next up, Asus launched their Gaming phone, the ROG phone 5, this was also one of the best phones to have launched this year, this had amazing battery life amazing screen and an excellent front facing dual speakers to give you immersive gaming performance.

Then came Apple’s part for this year's flagship list. Apple at their September event, launched the I phone 13 series. This is a very small spec bump compared to the 12 series, but Apple has improved all three main sectors of the phone, The Camera, the Battery life and the screen, which is pretty sweet, and enough to call it the new I phone.

Google launched their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 pro, which turned out to be one of the best value phones of the year and is recommended by many, sadly neither of the two pixels are available in India.

FOLDABLES

Foldables, or more specifically Folding Phones, have always been an experimental category of phones due to it having lower durability and mechanical parts, but this year we have been seeing really good implementations of this folding phone category.

In the month of August, the Z fold and flip 3 got introduced, which to be honest is still very expensive but it is a nice version of a folding phone. The Z-Fold 3 was more than a mere spec bump from last year, the outer small screen was made bigger, the support for s pen was added, the inner screen had a new invisible camera instead of last year’s hole punch and the camera layout was changed and looked much sleeker.

Flip 3 also got a design overhaul, a bigger cover screen showing more information, a better inner screen and a spec bump, best of all this phone came at a lower price than the flip 2.

Oppo also introduced their Oppo Find N, which is also a really capable foldable, let down by the fact this phone is China only

ROBOTS

This is a new category in the tech world, for the last few years we have heard a lot of rumors about upcoming robots. Last year we had Boston Dynamics’ spot take the crown. This year we started seeing a lot of competition in this area, Amazon launched a mass production robot called Astro, tesla introduced a concept called as the tesla bot, MI introduced Cyberdog and Boston dynamics showed a prototype of their upcoming robot called atlas, and stretch. Toyota is also working on a humanoid robot called T-HR3.

HOME SECURITY

Home security is very important, and when it comes to tech securing our homes and making it a happier place, Google and Amazon has really put a lot of effort into it, both google and Amazon launched indoor and outdoor cameras, smart doorbells, etc.

Amazon extensively also launched a drone camera to look after our house when we aren't in our homes. They also introduced security subscriptions which includes 24/7 emergency medical help, fall detection etc. But these subscriptions are only available to certain countries.

SPACE

Just as we were about to wind up this year, Nasa launched their space rocket, named as the James Webb, this honey comb like craft sits at a point and captures the light of the stars from early universe, and tells us about the past, like a virtual time-machine to look back how our universe started.

This is my compilation or Tech rewind as you may call it, I actually loved a most of the things I have mentioned here, I have left out a few to reduce size, so comment down below, if this article was useful and/or if you expected anything that I missed to write, I will always listen to your comments and go by it, this is Raghunath Balaji from Tech passion wishing you a great year ahead.
